Wesley Snipes Sentenced to Three Years in Prison

Wesley Snipes Sentenced to Three Years in Prison

It's bad news for Wesley Snipes, whose request for a new trial in his tax-related crimes case has been denied. The actor has been ordered by a federal judge to surrender to authorities and immediately begin serving a three-year prison sentence.

In a 17-page order, U.S. District Court Judge William Terrell Hodges said, "The Defendant Snipes had a fair trial; he has had a full, fair and thorough review of his conviction and sentence by the Court of Appeals; and he has had a full, fair and thorough review of his present claims, during all of which he has remained at liberty. The time has come for the judgment to be enforced."

Snipes, 48, was convicted in 2008 on three misdemeanor counts of willful failure to file his income tax returns.

"It is just shocking," the Blade star's lawyer said in a statement released after the decision. "Wesley is very disappointed but staying strong and positive."
